Wayne, genuine name Marion Mitchell Morrison, is a Hollywood cowboy legend. He originally hoped to participate in the U.S. Naval Academy, yet after the school declined him, he accepted a full scholarship to play football at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Wayne’s football coach found him a job as an assistant prop man on the set of a motion picture directed by John Ford, who began to use Wayne as an extra prior to letting him play larger roles. He won the Best Actor award at the 1969 Oscars for True Grit before passing away in 1979.
